A bit about me
My name is Bloom and I am a Black African boy excited to create this class. I am 11 years old and I live in Washington D.C., a very cool and historical place. Moves with Bloom is my personal capoeira business idea that I’m starting and it is coming to life!!!
I’ve been doing and studying capoeira with my father my whole life. So far it has been really amazing learning this amazing martial art. When I was 2 years old I began helping my father teach capoeira classes for our family business, The Family Dances.
I want to lead this class to inspire others how great they can be in this world. What I hope people learn from me is that I’m showing and teaching them basic, ancient capoeira movements.
About this class
In Moves with Bloom students will be learning simple and fun capoeira movements that will help them in rodas. A roda is where people get together to play instruments and play capoeira. Usually two people play a capoeira game together in the middle of the roda.
More about capoeira
Capoeira is an African Brazilian martial art, started by the Africans in different parts of Africa. They were enslaved and forced to go wherever their masters wanted them to go. Africans in Brazil had to disguise capoeira as a dance and having fun, when they were really practicing self-defense so that they could protect themselves against the people who didn’t want them to be free.
The style of capoeira I will be teaching is a style called Capoeira Angola, that was started by a capoeira master named Mestre Pastinha. He was a really, really great teacher. Because of him Capoeira Angola as we know it lives on.
How to the class works
There are 3 ways to enjoy Moves with Bloom:
Every week I send out a weekly practice guide with new videos for students to practice capoeira with me.
Once a month I do a 30-minute Zoom session for students who sign up for the live class. (Space is limited and pre-registration is required.)
Students can also download 3-minute training demonstrations and 5-minute tutorials in the Moves with Bloom video library.
