The open studio is an opportunity to go inside of our creative practice. In preview of the Mother Mother Immersion Sanctuary, Binahkaye will share parts of her developmental process for the first installation in the Mother Mother performance series, Flight.

Flight reimagines two critical moments in the lives of Binahkaye’s maternal great-grandmothers, First Mary and Rossie. Through movement, writing, sermon, and song, Flight travels deep inside the underbelly of these mothers’ wildest dreams and brings them forward nearly a whole century later in a dialogic dance exchange with their great-granddaughter.

For the open studio, Binahkaye will perform some excerpts of pieces in progress, and facilitate some movement play and experimentation with attendees who want to travel inside the Mother Mother movement journey too.

There is no admission fee, and donations are always appreciated in support of TheFamily Dances and our home studio.
